16-year-old charged after Duluth shooting

DULUTH, MN–A 16-year-old has been charged in connection to an April shooting and assault in Duluth’s Lincoln Park neighborhood.

Ausineese Aubin Dufault, of Duluth, is being held on $50,000 bail at the St. Louis County Jail on two felony charges: aggravated robbery and assault.

Court documents show around 10:30 p.m. April 23, Duluth Police responded to St. Luke’s Hospital, where a female was being treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

She told authorities Dufault shot at her earlier that night near 21st Avenue West, in the alley between 2nd and 3rd Street.

The victim told authorities that she was inside an apartment, where the mother of Dufault’s child lives, to get a tattoo and speak to Dufault.

The victim and her friend, Mike, then went into Dufault’s child’s bedroom to talk on the phone.

She told authorities that Dufault and three other males came into the room, apparently out of nowhere, with a revolver.

The victim says one of the men hit her on the back of the head with the gun, and Dufault began barking orders to the other males to start taking items.

After she gave Dufault $350 and her phone, Dufault told the victim to leave. When she got into the hallway, she was punched in the head.

The victim and Mike ran outside to a vehicle, which the victim’s friend was driving.

As they started getting in the car, the victim told authorities that Dufault pointed a gun at her and shot in her direction at least three times. There was apparently a hole in the windshield.

The victim’s friend dropped her off at St. Luke’s, where staff observed a red circular mark by her right temple, near her ear. There was also a wound on the back of her head that was bleeding.

According to court documents, the victim later identified Dufault from a photo lineup.
