Duluth Marshall wins first ever state baseball championship

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – For the first time ever, the Duluth Marshall baseball team has claimed a MSHSL state championship.

The Hilltoppers overcame an early 2-0 deficit in the third inning to beat Minnehaha Academy 4-2 in the Class AA title game at Target Field.

Starting pitcher Ben Pedersen went 6.1 innings before being relieved due to the 115 pitch count rule. He struck out 9, and allowed just five hits and two walks. Brett Benson came on in relief to finish the final two outs of the game with a ground out and strikeout.

Marshall’s championship is the city of Duluth’s first state title since Duluth Denfeld won in 1950.

We’ll have the latest on the game at 6.
