Minnesota officials educate public ahead of hands-free law

ST. PAUL, MN — With the hands-free cell phone law taking effect August 1, motorists have been reaching out to the Department of Public Safety in Minnesota with many frequently asked questions.

In order to help answer those questions, the DPS will be holding a news conference Thursday evening to let drivers know what they can and can’t do behind the wheel.

According to the DPS, more than 60,000 crashes were related to distracted driving from 2014-2018, which is nearly one in five crashes in Minnesota, and contribute to an average of 45 deaths, and 204 life-changing injuries a year.
