3 charged following Duluth heroin bust, 2 children rescued

DULUTH, MN — Duluth Police say two children were brought to safety and three people were formally charged after a drug bust in the city’s East Hillside neighborhood.

According to police, the Lake Superior Drug and Violent Crime Task Force and Duluth investigators searched a home on the 900 block of East 4th Street on the morning of July 12.

During the search, authorities found heroin, a digital scale, an additional 40 grams of heroin which were in the process of being packaged so it could be sold, and stolen property from several recent car prowls.

Police say the the home had been the site of an overdose the week before, which required medical attention and a response from police.

In addition, police say the three suspects showed a disregard for the safety of two small children by exposing them to controlled substances.

Emily Thompson, 20, and Malcolm Xavier Lewis, 27, have both been formally charged with 1st Degree Sale of Heroin.

The third suspect, Damon Halliburton, 49, has also been formally charged with 1st Degree Sale of Heroin, as well as Child Endangerment.
