ELY, MN — The U.S. Forest Service says authorities will be conducting a prescribed burn Friday due to favorable conditions.
The fire, which will be done in the Kawishiwi Ranger District, is located about 24 miles southeast of Ely near East Chub Lake, east of Highway 1.
Authorities say there will be smoke in that area along Highway 1.
The burn is being done in order to meet multiple forest management objectives, such as reducing the amount of balsam fir and hazel trees.
Officials say the prescribed fire is part of the Pitcha Pine Prescribed Fire Project in the Kawishiwi Ranger District.
