SUPERIOR, WI– Hundreds gathered at Barker’s Island for Lake Superior day on Sunday.
Starting back in the early 90s, Lake Superior Day is an effort to celebrate and appreciate our Great Lake.
The event kicked off this morning with a paddleboarding race, and later in the afternoon, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the city of Superior celebrated the completed Barker’s Island Beach Restoration project
“Today’s a special day because the city of Superior, Wisconsin DNR are really happy to announce that Barker’s Island Beach is re-opened, after a lot of restoration work. So, we encourage people to come down here and check out the beautiful beach,” said Erika Washburn, with Lake Superior National Estuary Research Reserve.
Attendees could also go on restoration-focused boat tours and sample Lake Superior-inspired beer
