DULUTH, MN- Tuesday, nurses from Essentia health and St. Luke’s are planning to picket.
It will happen outside of Essentia Health, after months of battling management.
Monday nurses came together at different homes around town to make signs for the picketing.
The informational demonstration will allow the nurses to inform the community on the issues they have allegedly been facing with management.
Nurses claim they’ve dealt with issues when it comes to negotiating contracts, workplace violence, paid time off and insurance plan changes.
“We are hoping for a really good turnout we have had other informational gatherings about contract negotiations at city hall and Essentia while negotiations are happening. We had over 250 nurses show up to the city council meeting,” Angie Nolle an RN at Essentia Health said.
In response to the picket, Essentia Health released a statement stating,
“Essentia Health has received notice that members of the Minnesota Nurses Association plan to hold an informational picket outside our downtown Duluth hospitals on Tuesday, Aug. 20. It’s important to note that our nurses are not on strike and our hospitals will be open as usual, providing quality care to our patients and their families. We value the contributions of our skilled and compassionate nurses and respect their right to conduct informational picketing as part of the contract negotiation process. We have measures in place to ensure that our patients, their families, hospital staff and others will have access to our facilities during the picketing.”
St. Luke’s also commented stating,
“It’s an informational picket only. We do not expect it to impact the care of our patients.”
