Dragon Boat races for Habitat for Humanity

SUPERIOR, WI–Rowing towards the finish line, businesses, and organizations from around the Twin Ports raced in the 18th annual Dragon Boat races.

Dragon Boat races are one of the biggest charity fundraisers for the Superior Rotary Clubs.

Volunteer Scott Soderberg “over the years of this festival it has had an impact of about $3.2 million dollars raised that go back into the Twin Ports community.”

The idea for the races came about 20 years ago when looking for fundraising ideas.

“It turned out to be so much fun we thought we need to do this in the Twin Ports so we brought it back,” says Soderberg.

This year’s charity of choice is Habitat for Humanity.

Remax Results is one of the biggest sponsors who participate in the races each year and they say they’re excited to help out the community.

Randy Gordon who raced on the Balloon Platoon said, “being a realtor I think it’s important that everybody has the first chance for a home.”

Win or lose these teams are just here to enjoy the fun and support a good cause.

Gordon says, “This is only my 2nd year and we’re not a very good team, but we have a lot of fun.”

Soderberg adds that putting the event on maybe a lot of preparation, but it is well worth it.

“We’re happy to put this on, we love to be able to contribute this money to all sorts of organizations,” he says.
