PINE COUNTY, MN– A 62-year-old woman is dead following a house fire in Pine County Tuesday night.
According to the Pine County Sheriff’s Office, multiple agencies responded to a report of a house fire on Highway 23 west of Highway 107 near Brook Park.
The caller was the homeowner who reported his house on fire.
The first deputy on scene found the house engulfed in flames.
According to the homeowner, he and his wife were in separate rooms of the home when he noticed the fire and smoke filling the house. The man was able to get out of the home and made attempts to re-enter through a different door looking for his wife but was unable to find her. He then drove to Brook Park to call 911.
Once the fire was under control, the fire departments were able to enter the home where they located the man’s wife.
The man was taken to an area hospital for treatment, and his wife was taken to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy.
The State Fire Marshal was called in to assist with the investigation of the fire.
The Red Cross is helping the homeowner with temporary housing at this time.
The incident remains under investigation.
