Duluth, Minn. — During Saturday’s game versus St. Cloud State, the UMD men’s football team will hold a military appreciation day in order to honor those who have sacrificed for our country.
During Friday’s practice, the team hosted four-star General Joseph Votel to talk with the team. Votel spent 39 years in the military which included combat in Panama, Afghanistan and Iraq.
“I think it’s really important, I think it’s really important for people that serve, whether it’s military, police, or firemen. It’s important for them to see public support for the things that they do. Sports is a great laboratory for life. The things that people experience playing sports, whether it’s teamwork, being a leader, being supported or supporting. Learning to play hurt if that’s necessary and kind of putting the focus on the team and not the individual I think is a great laboratory for life,” said Votel.
UMD hosts SCSU Saturday at 6:05pm on My9 Sports.
