Sen. Smith introduces bill to study impact of high insulin prices

WASHINGTON D.C — U.S Senator Tina Smith is introducing a bill aimed at investigating the impact of insulin affordability.

The Democrat from Minnesota has bi-partisan support for the bill.

It would require the Secretary of Health and Human Services and others conduct a study looking at how insulin prices affect people who are dependent on the treatment.

The medicine’s cost has skyrocketed in recent years

“We don’t really know the extent of this problem, nor do we know the magnitude of the long term health impacts from people who aren’t taking all of the medicine they need. So, our idea, in a bi-partisan way, is to get that information out there,” said Smith D – MN.

This bill is in addition to another Sen. Smith introduced earlier this year, aimed at making insulin more affordable.

That bill is still making its way through Congress.
