UMD men’s hockey: Perunovich earns NCHC honors, Dogs drop in polls

Duluth, Minn. —

After falling 3-1 on Friday night, the Bulldogs rallied to win 3-2 on Saturday evening over Miami-Ohio on the team’s first road series of they year. Thanks to the split, the Dawgs fall from number six to number nine in the latest national polls.

Minnesota State Mankato stays in their top spot in the polls, Denver drops to number two after a tough series with North Dakota, the Fighting Hawks jump to number five. UMD sits at the ninth spot. The NCHC has four teams ranked overall, three teams in the top 10. Omaha is also up to 18.

For the third straight week, UMD getting some NCHC recognition… this time it’s Scott Perunovich… again. The junior defenseman earns his second defenseman of the week honor this season after another stellar weekend performance.

The Hibbing native continues to lead UMD in scoring overall and on the weekend as well, racking up four points courtesy of assists… having a hand in each of UMD’s four goals. He also led the Bulldogs in blocked shots in the defense zone with seven.

It is Perunovich’s eighth NCHC weekly honor of his career.
