HERMANTOWN, MN-- Voters in Hermantown could face a big decision this November: whether or not to approve a new sales tax.
Tuesday night, Hermantown City Councilors took the first step toward putting a 0.5% sales tax on the November ballot.
The money raised would go toward improving the Hermantown Hockey arena, Fichtner Field, and the city's trail systems.
In all, city officials say those projects would cost $28 million dollars.
Before the sales tax question can appear on the ballot, the Minnesota Legislature also has to give its approval during the upcoming session.
Hermantown city leaders say, if approved, the sales tax would generate about $1.5 million dollars each year.
