UPDATE: Cody Hofsommer won the History Channel show "Forged in Fire" Wednesday night.

The Aurora, MN resident competed in the show's bladesmith competition and won $10,000.

Aurora, MN -- What started as a passion, has turned into an opportunity of a lifetime for Aurora native Cody Hofsommer.

He says, "So a bladesmith is a knife maker that uses forge and an anvil to shape the steel."

He is being featured on the History Channels Forged in Fire show.

"It is a competition between four bladesmiths. It's a three-round competition, each round someone is sent home. And the winner receives $10,000 dollars," says Hofsommer.

The competition was filmed in several parts of the country.

Hofsommer says was filled with emotions.

He says, "They put you in a stressful environment. Nerves are definitely all amped up. It's a time competition, so time is really your enemy. It's a lot of problems solving. It was extremely stressful, it was extremely fun."

Hofsommer hopes those who watch will be inspired and want to learn more about this unique trade.

"That people can see some new things, realize this art isn't dead, that it isn't dead. And come try it out and see what they can make."

If you want to know if Hofsommer won the $10,000 dollars you'll have to tune in to Forged in Fire on the history channel tonight.

The episode airs Wednesday at 8 p.m.

Hofsommer also volunteers with the 23rd Veterans organization here in Duluth.

He says he loves showing the group how bladesmithing works.
