SUPERIOR,WI - Superior businesses are praying for a thaw.
Mayor Jim Paine says he's heard from shops all over town that financially struggled more than usual this winter.
Mayor Paine says business was slower for a lot of stores this winter due to that huge thanksgiving weekend snowstorm that stranded many home during the busiest shopping weekend of the year.
He added there's not a lot of light at the end of the tunnel just yet, since February is usually one of the slowest months for Superior's downtown shops.
So Paine says he wanted to do something to help.
During a press conference today, he proclaimed today "keep your love local day".
He's hoping to inspire community members to buy local ahead of this weekend's hallmark holiday.
"With valentines day coming up I thought it was a good chance to remind the citizens of Superior and our visitors that we can support everything you need to buy for valentines day right here in the city of Superior. So I wanted to issue the proclamation to declare today, keep your love local day." Said Paine.
After the thanksgiving snowstorm postponed small business Saturday, many Superior shops came together to hold a second "shop small" promotion the following weekend.
Mayor Paine said many local shops will be open tomorrow for all those last minute procrastinators.
