SUPERIOR, WI-- Superior's mayor is fighting for faster, cheaper internet with plans to develop the city's own network.
Mayor Jim Paine and city councilor Tylor Elm introduced their "Connect Superior" initiative on Tuesday. The plan includes developing the Superior Fiber Network, which would make internet available like other city utilities.
Paine says their proposal would increase competition, drive down prices, and make internet more accessible for residents and business.
Paine and Elm are asking the public to weigh in by taking a survey.
With the feedback they receive, the plan will then be proposed to the city's communication and IT committee. The project would eventually need the city council's approval.
