Cleveland-Cliffs temporarily shuts down construction of HBI facility

CLEVELAND, OH -- Cleveland-Cliffs has announced it will temporarily stop construction of its new hot-briquetted iron (HBI) facility in Toledo, Ohio.

According to the company, the decision was made in accordance with guidelines set by the Governor of Ohio regarding COVID-19 concerns.

The construction stoppage goes into effect on March 20th.

In a press release, Cleveland-Cliffs said it will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation.

All other Cleveland-Cliffs iron ore mining and steelmaking facilities will remain in operation.

Cleveland-Cliffs owns Northshore Mine in Silver Bay and United Taconite in Forbes, MN.
