MADISON, WI-- Tricia Zunker was defeated by her Republican opponent, Republican State Sen. Tom Tiffany during Tuesday's special election.

The two were vying for Wisconsin's 7th Congressional District seat.

In a statement, Zunker writes:

Tonight, Tricia Zunker’s special election race narrowed margins in a way thought improbable in a district Trump won by 20 points in 2016. No House candidate has gotten over 40% of the vote in the district since 2012. Zunker’s race is a bellwether for what’s happening in Wisconsin and throughout this country in response to the Trump administration’s handling of this pandemic. Zunker showed that Wisconsin is trending blue for the fall.

"I ran on affordable health care, help for our small businesses and family farmers, and protecting our environment, and that message resonated with people throughout Northern Wisconsin,” said Tricia Zunker. “Despite a global pandemic and the lack of universal mail-in voting, we showed what can be done, and we laid the groundwork for this seat to turn blue in November.”
