SUPERIOR, WI -- Superior Fire Department officials are currently responding to a fire at the city's landfill.

As of 9 o'clock Wednesday evening crews were still working the blaze.

Superior's heavy equipment operators were helping, moving the garbage strategically so fire crews could douse the flames.

Fire Chief Scott Gordon says fires have happened at the landfill several times in the past, and usually take a few hours to put out.

We don't know how the fire started, how bad the damage is, or if there are any injures.

The blaze created a massive plume of black smoke that can be seen for miles.

One person who called CBS 3 said they could see it from West Duluth.
