UMD freshman Blake Biondi drafted by Montreal Canadiens; Kaiser, Smith also drafted

HERMANTOWN, MM -- Current UMD freshman and former Hermantown star Blake Biondi was drafted 109th overall in the 4th round of the NHL Draft by the Montreal Canadiens.

Biondi won the 2019-20 Minnesota Mr. Hockey Award. He is the second current Bulldog freshman drafted, joining Wyatt Kaiser who was selected by the Chicago Blackhawks.

Biondi lead the Hawks to the 2019-20 MSHSL Class A State Championship game. He tallied 95 points on 47 goals in his senior season at Hermantown.

"It's obviously unbelievable, something you dream about for a really long time. And when it happens, it really hasn't set in yet, but yeah it was awesome, just seeing Hermantown too, and the highlights in your own rink, so it's really awesome, it's a great feeling," said Biondi.

The 18-year-old NHL center prospect plans to play this season at UMD, which is scheduled to open their season in November.

The Canadiens made another splash in the Bulldog market picking up Jack Smith with the 102nd overall pick out of St. Cloud Cathedral. The forward had 16 goals and 14 assists last season.
