Charges: Ely teen stabbed 13 times, 16-year-old suspect facing attempted murder charge

ELY, MN -- A 16-year-old Ely boy is charged with attempted murder after authorities say another teen was found with 13 stab wounds in a ravine near Miners Lake, according to court documents.

Ely Police say say a hiker had found a person who seemed to have fallen down a ravine on the 800 block of Miners Drive last Thursday.

Police said the 13-year-old victim, who court documents indicate is related to the suspect, was conscious but confused.

Responders found what appeared to be stab wounds along with a leg injury.

The victim told police he was assaulted.

Police arrested a 16-year-old suspect. He's being held at Arrowhead Juvenile Center in Duluth.

The victim was flown to Essentia Health in Duluth where he is still hospitalized in stable condition as of Wednesday afternoon.

Police haven't said what led up to the alleged assault.

A motion has been filed for the case to be heard in adult court.

The suspect is expected to be arrainged on October 20.
