Previewing Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional Race

DULUTH, MN. -- After going head to head in a special election to fill Sean Duffy’s former U.S. House seat in May, Rep. Tom Tiffany and his democratic challenger Tricia Zunker are on the ballot once again and are ready to face off.

Back in May, a special election was held to fill Wisconsin's 7th Congressional District seat, in that election, Tom Tiffany defeated Tricia Zunker.

Fast forward five months, they are both back on the ballot, and even though she lost in May, Zunker hasn't been slowing down her campaign.

"It might seem like it was difficult to get back in but quite frankly it's an unfinished job and there's a lot of people out there that need real representation and are without it," said Zunker.

Zunker is looking to become the first Native American woman elected to Congress from Wisconsin.

Zunker is Ho-Chunk and the president of the Wausau School Board.

During her campaign, Zunker has seen a magnified role in getting help for childcare and caretakers.

"We can solve this problem by getting to actually valuing them for the critical work that they do by ensuring liveable wage and benefits," said Zunker.

Zunker's opponent? Tom Tiffany, who defeated Zunker with 57% of the vote during the special election.

Tiffany is focusing on re-opening the economy while trying to stop the continued spike of the coronavirus in Wisconsin.

"Really stay focused on getting people relief through the coronavirus problem here. Build that bridge so businesses can make it to the other side and then get our economy back open, re-open safely, and get our schools re-open", said Tiffany.

Tiffany served as state senator for Wisconsin's 12th District before his victory back in May, and if re-elected, he said he wants to pass bills that will help the maritime industry in the Twin Ports, something he has already been talking with Minnesota Representative Pete Stauber about.

"We are going to get some good things done especially for the twin ports which is a vital transportation hub here in North America," said Tiffany.

The 7th Congressional District is the largest geographically in Wisconsin, spanning 21 counties plus portions of five others.
