ST. PAUL, MN -- Governor Tim Walz has directed all flags at state and federal buildings in Minnesota to be flown at half-staff to honor the "service and sacrifice" of two Capitol Police officers.
Officers Brian Sicknick and Howard Liebengood both died just days after a mob sieged the nation's Capitol on Jan. 6.
Sicknick died on Thursday after being hit in the head with a fire extinguisher during the riot.
According to a press release, it's unclear if Liebengood's death on Saturday is a result of Wednesday's events.
Individuals, businesses, and other organizations are also encouraged to join in lowering their flags to honor the officers.
The order is in effect until sunset on Wednesday, Jan. 13.
