Madison, WI-- Wisconsin National Guard members will be among thousands of citizen soldiers and airmen who are deploying to the nation's Capital.

Governor Tony Evers announced Wednesday 500 Wisconsin troops will support local authorities in Washington, DC.

They're deploying in advance of the presidential Inauguration next week.

They'll be among 20,000 troops from across the country, working to maintain peace and security.

“We are once again thankful to the Wisconsin National Guard for always stepping up, not only for their friends and neighbors here in Wisconsin, but wherever they are needed,” said Gov. Evers. “I'm confident these members of the Guard will assist in any way they can to help maintain peace and security in our nation's capital in the days ahead.”

Other Wisconsin Guardsmen are also deploying to Madison after threats against the state capitol.
