Duluth Firefighters respond to fire onboard decommissioned ship

Ship fire

DULUTH, MN -- Firefighters are responding to a ship on fire that's docked at a slip in the Duluth Port.

City spokespeople say the fire broke out around 3:15 p.m. onboard the J.B. Ford.

Firefighters say crews were trying to dismantle the ship when a spark caught wood on fire.

The 112-year-old decommissioned ship was towed to the scrapyard in October 2015.

The slip where the ship is docked is owned by a company called Azcon Metals.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
