DULUTH, MN-- Construction is underway to bring new life to a historic building in downtown Duluth.
"Just Take Action" is currently renovating the top floors of Old City Hall to accommodate 13 new Airbnb-style hotel rooms.
The building, which served as the Duluth City Hall from 1888 to 1929 on East Superior Street, has been home to a few businesses over the years.
Troy Carlson, the maintenance director, says he sees this as a way to preserve the history of the building and the city.
“Putting something new or a new idea or concept into a historic building not only saves the building itself. There is just so much history; Jay Cooked walked in these hallways,” said Carlson.
As for what the future holds, Carlson says that he hopes these rooms bring a new life to the building and the downtown.
“We want to save an older building and revitalize downtown, and get people and tourists to enjoy our downtown area,” he said.
The new boutique hotel is expected to open in June.
