SAINT PAUL, MN -- Memorial Blood Centers are in need of blood donations more than ever.
They announced a blood emergency due to a nationwide shortage and cannot keep up with the demand.
“We currently have only a 3-day supply of blood to offer to more than 30 local hospitals. The long-term impact of the pandemic has meant we’ve had a year of virtually no high school or college first-time donors, and 41% fewer donors between the ages of 17-24,” said Kathy Geist, Senior Executive Director.
Not only is there a dramatic decline in donations but a surge in blood usage at hospitals is needed.
Memorial Blood Centers asks all eligible donors to step up and give blood as it only takes "less than an hour and costs nothing."
The center is offering Twins tickets as an incentive to get people to donate.
Donors can find out if they’re eligible, or schedule an appointment here.
