UPDATE 10:30 p.m. — One person is dead, according to the Ashland Daily Press, and another is in custody after what Ashland police are calling an officer-involved shooting.

What neighbors say is usually a quiet, safe neighborhood, Wednesday evening was overrun with local and federal authorities. Multiple investigators, including the U.S.  Marshals Service and the Division of Criminal Investigations, remain on-scene, as of 10:30 Wednesday night.

During the swarm, witnesses tell us police told them to stay inside their homes, but some say neighbors were outside watching. One witness tells us he saw the U.S. Marshals approaching the the home in staggered form, and hiding behind cars and trees.

He then told us he heard a rapid fire of shots, about eight to 12, followed by a giant boom. Another witness tell us he heard the shots as well, and that he left the area and called his roommates to have them do the same.

“Seems like maybe eight to ten shots fired, but I know all my neighbors, it’s quiet. I leave my bike unlocked. It’s a safe place,” Thomas Bierman, a neighbor, said.

He tells us even though he knows all his neighbors, he did not know the people living in that home. He says he believes it’s a rental unit.

Investigators with the DCI we spoke with said they couldn’t give us any information at this time, but did say they are in for a long night.

We will continue to update this story as the investigation unfolds and we learn more details.
