Former staffers accuse Klobuchar of creating “hostile work environment”

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Some harsh claims are being made against Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar, who is expected to make a bid for President in 2020 this weekend.

According to Buzzfeed News, a number of former staffers who worked for Klobuchar are accusing the senator of berating staff over small mistakes and creating a hostile work environment.

Buzzfeed apparently obtained emails between Klobuchar and staff members that back up those claims.

Those staffers also allege Klobuchar threw papers and flung objects, and on at least one occasion, a staffer was allegedly struck by an airborne binder.

The aides told Buzzfeed they were regularly left in tears.

Buzzfeed isn’t the only outlet reporting the alleged behavior, as the Huffington Post recently published an article with similar allegations.

UMD Political Science professor Cindy Rugely says it’s too early to tell what impact this could have on a potential 2020 bid.

“It’s been out there for a long time, and over the course of the next several weeks, if she announces, the depth of it will be revealed. Whether it’s just, you know what, she’s a mean boss sometimes, or whether or not it’s a true problem,” said Rugely.

We have reached out to Klobuchar’s office for comment, and will continue to update our story.
