3:15 p.m. UPDATE: Officials with Cleveland-Cliffs say no one was injured during a fire in a coal mill on one of the company’s furnace lines at United Taconite Wednesday afternoon.
Authorities say they were called to the plant around 1 p.m., and were able to put the flames out.
According to Cleveland-Cliffs, the company will be monitoring the facility for the rest of the day, and a fire watch has been put in place.
The cause of the fire is still unknown at this time.
Company officials say there are no current safety issues due to the fire, and pellet production is unaffected at the plant.
No property or equipment were significantly damaged during the incident.
1:45 p.m. — Authorities say multiple departments are on scene of what they say is a coal fire at United Taconite.
According to the Hibbing Fire Department, multiple fire departments were called to the Fair Lane Plant around 1 p.m. Wednesday.
At this time, authorities say based on the information given to them, a coal fire was underway in a structure on the property.
