ELECTION DAY PREVIEW: What you need to know ahead of Tuesday’s Special Elections

NORTHERN MINNESOTA– Several special elections are set to take place on Tuesday. Here’s what you need to know.

IRON RANGE SCHOOL COLLABORATION

VIRGINIA, MN– A big decision will be made involving two Iron Range schools that could impact future generations.

The Virginia and Eveleth-Gilbert school districts have planned on combining the two schools together, with the goal in mind of heading towards a more career-based method, however they have gone to tax payers for some help.

The change would include combining the two high schools into one along with two elementary schools at a neutral site in Midway, located just of Highway 53.

The cost of the project is around $200 million and the public is being asked to cover 19 percent of it.

If the referendum passes, the ground work already in place would begin immediately. If it fails, officials say the school districts will have to deal with their problems on their own.

RENOVATION OF WRENSHALL SCHOOLS

WRENSHALL, MN– The Wrenshall school district is proposing a huge renovation project for the public to vote on.

For the third time in two years, the Wrenshall School Board will be asking voters to approve millions in renovations and updates to the aging school building.

In a special meeting back in February, the school board approved unanimously a review and comment document to then submit to the Minnesota Department of Education.

This would then ask voters to approve the cost of renovations and construction of a new school, which totals $14.4 million.
