Cooper Elementary School set to open this fall despite fires, explosion

SUPERIOR, WI — After a fire and explosion set back construction at Superior’s Cooper Elementary, they’re looking forward to re-opening this fall.

The Superior School District says the completion date will be either on or ahead of schedule.

Last April, an explosion and two fires tore through the building, causing millions of dollars worth of damages to both the east and west wings of the school.

The school was originally expected to open in September last year, but significant damage pushed that back.

School district officials say a lot of the work is expected to be finished by April, with some landscaping work scheduled for the summer.

It’s expected to be ready for students by next school year.
