Navy week kicks off with a beach cleanup

DULUTH, MN– Navy Week kicks off in Duluth Monday as sailors arrived in the Twin Ports for the celebration.

Navy Week’s last stop in Duluth was 2014.

One of Monday’s events was held at the park point beach house, where sailors joined YMCA day-campers for a Beach cleanup.

One Lieutenant we spoke with says these events help the navy build relationships with the community.

Lt. Davis Anderson stated, “So we came out and partnered with Parks and Rec,to kind of do a beach cleanup so the YMCA  brought kids out from key-zone and we brought the sailors and they are going up and down the beach to pick up trash and make the beach a little bit cleaner. ”

At 11 Tuesday morning, you can catch the Navy Band performing at the downtown Duluth farmers market.

There’s plenty more events planned, for the full schedule click here.
