Duluth, MN — Freshman Gabbie Hughes was a major stand-out for the UMD Bulldogs this past weekend and as a result, the Lino Lakes native was named WCHA forward of the week. Hughes had a total of three goals scored on the weekend. She had an unassisted power play goal in the third period on Saturday against Minnesota that ended up tying the game. She also scored the Bulldog’s first two goals against Minnesota State Mankato on Sunday.
“It’s pretty exciting. You’ll see more confident play from them this weekend. I think we all will. It can’t hurt to have more people on the score sheet. It’s always a good thing. The more she’s having fun, the better off she is going to be. TO put up five points in three games is pretty impressive. She finds the dirty areas and she’s willing to go there. So as long as she continues to find that spot, she’ll continue to put pucks away which is what she loves to do.”
assistant coach Laura Bellamy said.
UMD is back in action on the road this weekend at one of the toughest arenas to play in in the WCHA, at Bemidji State. Puck drop is this Friday at 3:07pm and Saturday at 1:07pm.
