Duluth, Minn. — Ahead of this weekend’s series at Minnesota, Freshman Gabbie Hughes leads the entire UMD hockey team in points. So far she has tallied 13 goals and 12 assists in her first year with the program. Head coach Maura Crowell says that Hughes’ success doesn’t come as a major shock.
“I think any time a freshman puts numbers up like this they’re exceeding expectations. Her success is not a surprise. She’s a name in Minnesota that everyone knows about. She made that U18 team so got international attention and what she’s doing here as a freshman in the WCHA and nationally speaks volume to the player that she is,” Crowell said.
UMD will take on number two Minnesota tomorrow at 4:07pm and Sunday at 1:07pm at Ridder Arena.
