Duluth, Minn. — To say it was a big day of news for the University of Minnesota Duluth athletic department would be an understatement.
UMD football named their five new captains for next season. A trio of seniors — free safety Bill Atkins, linebacker Isaac Erdmann and defensive end Tom Johnson — along with junior quarterback John Larson and junior wide receiver Johnny McCormick will all serve as the University of Minnesota Duluth’s team captains this fall when the defending Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference champion Bulldogs engage in their 87th season of intercollegiate football.
Finally, UMD basketball added a new face to the bench in Carson Shanks as the team’s newest assistant coach. The Apple Valley native spent three seasons at the the University of North Dakota where he averaged a block per game… following that he played a season at Loyola University- Chicago during the team’s historic run into the Final Four during 2018… he will mainly oversee post players for the Bulldogs.
