Esko, Minn. — On the field and off the field, Sydney and lily Hanson have quite the sisterly bond. Not only did the two grow up in the same household but this season, they got to share the same infield at Esko high school.
As the Esko softball team makes their fourth straight trip to the state tournament, The Hanson sisters will make their first trip as a sibling duo.
Head coach Jeff Emanuel has especially been impressed with the way that Sydney has stepped up in the post-season, especially after she switched to short-stop.
Lilly on the other hand followed in her sister’s footsteps and took over at second base.
“I’ve never played short-stop before and this year he put me at that position and that was kind of a big change and that’s why I’ve just taken it on to play like I can play just at second and it’s really cool that I get to play with my sister next to me and she just reassures me that everything is fine, like she’s my teammate, but she’s my sister so I know that one game specifically I was struggling and she just picked me up and I don’t know, it’s just really cool that I get to have her next to me all the time,” Sydney (sr.) said.
“It’s a dream come true that it’s her senior year and I get to work with her right by her side. And the fact that we get to turn those double plays is really exciting,” Lily (soph.) said.
