DULUTH, MN- After taking his final snaps as a standout wide receiver for the UMD football team just this past season. Jason Balts won’t be leaving the program after all.

Balts has joined the UMD coaching staff as a intern assistant coach, with his primary role being in charge of the Running Backs.

Balts was a three year starter and a two-time captain for the Bulldogs.

He attained first team NSIC honors in 2017 and is the 6th Bulldog to eclipse the 1,000 yard mark in a single season.

“Coach Wise giving me this opportunity is something I have talked to him awhile about. And honestly it’s something I’m very excited for. There’s a lot to learn right now just the difference between the first month of being a player to being a coach, there’s a lot schematically that I didn’t know, that I’m still going to need to learn. I’m excited to work with him, Chase, and the rest of our offensive staff and get caught up to speed and hopefully get coaching our guys quickly,” said Balts.
