Esko takes 2018 season as learning lesson to prepare for new year

ESKO, MN- It was a disappointing 2018 season for the Esko football team as the squad finished with a 3-7 record.

But there are some positives to take away from last season. Of the 7 losses, Esko only fell by a margin of 8 points or less in 5 contests.

Esko also advanced to the 2nd round of the Class 7AAA playoffs, before falling to the eventual section champion Two Harbors.

Head Coach Scott Arntson says it all came down to execution last year and if the team can get that done this year their record will change drastically.

“Hopefully we execute a little higher, that’s going to be the goal. Hopefully, they have the same effort, they give everything all the way to the end, like the team last year did. If we can execute at a higher level, hold on to the ball, that should help. We’re going to be in a lot of close games this year, that’s the way it is,” said Arntson.

“Finishing is probably the biggest one, it would be definitely up there. Just staying together and not getting down on each other, picking each other up. Whether I have a bad snap or a receiver drops a pass, it would definitely be picking each other up and making sure we’re all still going at 100%,” added senior center Lincoln Severson.

Esko opens the season at Proctor on August 30th.
