Altoona company creating quilts for Girl Scout troop following fatal crash last weekend

Altoona (WQOW) — A quilt supply store is asking for your help to bring some comfort to the Girl Scout troop recently struck by tragedy.

Stitch Supply Co. in Altoona is asking for people to sew 5″ or 10″ green hearts, either on their own, or they can pick up a kit in store, so they can be pieced together for different quilts.

Owner Ann Sandler told our sister station the response to this project has been so great, the original idea of four quilts jumped to 15, so each scout in Troop 3055 will get one.

“It’s such a tragic thing that happened to our community, and everybody wants to help, and they want a way to wrap their arms around those girls,” Sandler said. “This is a way for us, as quilters are just such a giving, caring people, it’s our way just to give a little comfort to those girls.”

Sandler also said a date to start assembling the quilts hasn’t been set, but you can stay up to date on the project, and find instructions for making a heart block, by following their Facebook page, here
