CLOQUET, MN – Cloquet Police now say a story of abandoned puppies found in a park wasn’t true.

Police originally posted on social media that the two puppies were rescued by good Samaritans who came across the box in Scanlon Park.

After a number of interviews with people, police Thursday afternoon said they discovered several juveniles had purchased or received the puppies and thought by telling a parent they found the puppies, it would increase the chance of them keeping the animals.

They were unsuccessful.

Police said the information about the dogs quickly spread via social media before police were notified.

The Police Department is apologizing for any inconvenience or unnecessary emotions the incident may have caused.
