DULUTH, MN–The man accused of murdering a Park Point resident during a robbery was in court Monday.
30-year-old Darrel Mayhew is charged with both unintentional and intentional 2nd degree murder, robbery, and assault.
Police say Mayhew allegedly went into 70-year-old Larry Watczak’s home earlier this month, hit him on the head with a blunt object, and stole $2-dollars in change, a phone, and a tablet. Watczak died nearly two weeks later in the hospital.
In court Monday, a judge signed an amended criminal complaint to include the murder charge, which was added after Watzcak’s death.
A judge also approved the defense’s request for more time until Mayhew’s next hearing, which is scheduled for March 4.
Mayhew remains in jail on $750,000 dollars bail.
