Cloquet man accused of abusing infant challenging evidence in court

CARLTON COUNTY, MN–A Cloquet man accused of abusing his 3-month old infant is challenging some of the evidence against him in court.

25-year old Orion Verbist was charged with first-degree assault in December 2018 after the infant was taken to the hospital for a skull fracture, fractured arm, and fractured rib.

In court Wednesday, the defense challenged the statement Verbist gave to law enforcement and alleged that a doctor’s report on the infant’s injuries may be inadmissible.

A judge will consider those claims during a hearing in March.

Verbist is being held in the Carlton County jail on $500,000 bail.
