New Medicare enrollment plan ends soon

DULUTH, MN — For those who are currently enrolled in a Medicare Advantage Plan (MAP), your time is running out to enroll in a different plan.

Any Minnesota resident who began the year enrolled in the MAP has until Sunday, March 31, to enroll in a different health care plan.

You can do the following up until the deadline:

  • Switch to a different Medicare Advantage Plan that includes Part D (prescription drug coverage)
  • Drop their Medicare Advantage Plan, return to Original Medicare and enroll in a separate Medicare Part D Drug Plan.

To change plans, you can choose one of the following options:

  • Visit the Medicare website, click the “change plans” button at the top, and follow the prompts.
  • Medicare beneficiaries can call the Senior LinkAge Line, 1-800-333-2433, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, where specialists can provide callers with free, comprehensive, unbiased counseling.

The regular Medicare open enrollment for 2019 ended December 7th.

It’s possible you may be eligible for other special enrollment periods through the end of the year even with the March 31 deadline.

Those who enrolled in a Medicare plan by December 7th will be covered through December 31, 2019.

The Medicare Open Enrollment period for coverage that begins on January 1st, 2020, will run from October 15th through December 7.
