Northlanders run in Boston Marathon

BOSTON, MA- Several Northlanders hit the ground running during the 123rd Boston Marathon today.

It was the first time the marathon has landed on the same date of the bombings back in 2013.

Barry Brokaw of Superior and Brittany Markgren of Duluth were two of several locals who ran for the first time alongside 30,00 other runners. Both say it was a great experience.

“You look at the crowds, all those people have Boston strong shirts on. This is one of those big city marathons where front to back, the whole course of 26 miles they’re coming out to cheer you on, so that’s just a huge push for a person,” said Brokaw.

“I’ve been working so hard to get here, you have to qualify and it’s just a celebration of all the training and that accomplishment. I took my time and had fun on the course,” added Markgren.

Brokaw finished with a time of 3 hours and 34 minutes, while Markgren finished around 3 hours and 53 minutes. About a half million people were in the crowd.
