DEER RIVER, MN– Anyone who will be in the area northwest of Deer River may notice some hazy or smoky conditions on Friday.
Authorities with the U.S. Forest Service say a prescribed fire will take place in the Chippewa National Forest in the Cut Foot Sioux area, which is about 24 miles northwest of Deer River.
The fire will encompass an area of 110 acres along Forest Road 2196, which is about 1.5 miles from County Road 34.
As fire crews will be on location, smoke may be visible for several miles and may cross roads adjacent to the burn area, which could include MN-46 and MN-6.
The goal of the prescribed fire is to reduce the potential for unwanted wildfires by reducing brush and restore fire in a natural ecosystem.
Contact the Deer River Ranger District at (218) 246-2123 if you have any questions regarding the prescribed burns.
