MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A man accused of throwing a 5-year-old boy from a third-floor balcony at the Mall of America pleaded guilty Tuesday morning.

Twenty-four-year-old Emmanuel Aranda of Minneapolis pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder in connection to the April 12 incident.

Authorities say Aranda told them that he went to the mall “looking for someone to kill” and chose the boy at random. The boy fell nearly 40 feet and suffered head trauma and multiple broken bones.

Aranda is expected to appear in court on June 3 for his sentencing.
