Gov. Walz meets with PolyMet, Glencore

ST. PAUL, MN —  Minnesota Governor Tim Walz met with representatives from PolyMet and Glencore Thursday.

The meeting was closed to the press but in a statement to CBS 3 Duluth the company said they appreciated the opportunity to meet with the Governor to better understand his priorities, adding:

“It was a constructive meeting where we reaffirmed our commitment to building and operating responsibly the state’s first copper-nickel mine and bringing hundreds of much-needed jobs to the Iron Range.”

This comes after the company received some bipartisan support from state lawmakers earlier this week.

In a letter sent to Governor Tim Walz on Tuesday, 70 lawmakers from both sides of the aisle offered their support for the project.

That letter is in response to another letter sent last month from some democratic lawmakers calling on Governor Walz to reject the copper-nickel mining project.

The 70 lawmakers ended the letter saying they support mining and other industries when they meet and exceed regulatory standards.
