Tree dedicated in memory of sister city commission member at Superior’s Japanese-style garden

SUPERIOR, WI – A unique dedication Monday in Superior.

Adult and student delegates from Superior’s Japanese sister city, Ami-machi, were in attendance at Monday’s gathering.

A tree was dedicated in the memory of sister city commission member Josef Braeu who passed away in April 2019.

Superior’s sister city coordinator says it was very fitting seeing as Josef was instrumental in developing and maintaining the Japanese-style Friendship Garden in Billings Park for years.

“Because AMI has a friendship garden dedicated to Superior, so we wanted to do the same thing here. Josef helped us with this because he had the knowledge of the plants, the trees, what grows here and what doesn’t grow here. We are very happy to do this in Josef’s name,” the sister city coordinator, Rani Gill, said.

The 12 middle school students and 11 adults visiting from Superior’s Japanese sister city leave Tuesday.
