SUPERIOR, WI — The Superior City Council has decided the city will now officially celebrate “Indigenous People’s Day”, instead of “Columbus Day”.

That decision was made with a unanimous vote Tuesday night.

Duluth has already made the switch, and the Superior leaders felt it was time they made a change as well.

Mayor Jim Paine says Native American tribes are a large part of the Northland’s history.

The change goes into effect this year.
